Awareness jeep rally organised to stop residents dumping waste in Sidhwan canal
Rally was flagged off by MLA Gogi with a message for residents to keep the canal clean
Ludhiana, February 26, 2023: Aiming to spread awareness among masses and appealing them to stop dumping waste in the Sidhwan canal, Municipal Corporation (MC) in association with Punjabb Jeep Club organised an awareness rally- 'Sunday City Gehri for saving Sidhwan canal' alongside the canal on Sunday.
The jeep rally was flagged off by Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi and around 100 vehicles were part of the awareness rally. Special arrangements were made and traffic police were also deployed at different points to avoid traffic jams during the rally.
The rally started from Chahar Toll plaza on Laddowal bypass and covered the entire area on both sides of the canal within the city limits till Lohara canal bridge. During the rally announcements were also made by MC staffers wherein residents were urged to stop dumping waste in the canal, otherwise strict action will be taken against them.
MC Zonal Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon stated that MC has cleaned a major portion of the canal in the recent past. Working on the directions of MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal, awareness drives are now being held to stop the residents from dumping waste in the canal. Hefty challans of upto Rs 5000 are also being issued to the violators and over 230 residents have already been penalised for dumping waste in the canal. MC teams have been deployed for surveillance and FIRs are also being recommended against the adamant violators.
MLA Gogi stated that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led state government is committed to clean the water bodies across the state. Now that the civic body has cleaned the major portion of the canal within city limits, it also becomes the responsibility of the residents to support the authorities and stop dumping waste in the canal. More awareness drives will be organised in the coming time.
MLA Gogi and Zonal Commissioner Jasdev Sekhon appreciated the efforts put in by Vinayak Khanna and Ram Sharma from Punjabb Jeep Club, Manit Diwan from City Needs and other members of the club for being a part of the awareness drive.
