Awareness programme on “Body and Organ Donation” held
Ludhiana, August 8, 2018: Department of Anatomy organized a two-day awareness programme on “Body and Organ Donation- Ultimate gift to mankind” for the students of Delhi Public School yesterday and Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana today. Dr Hitant Vohra (Professor & Head of Anatomy) extended warm welcome to the students and teachers accompanying them. In her message, Dr Vohra said that Organ Donation’ is the most noble act, as the procedure involves taking healthy tissues and organs from cadaveric (brain dead) persons and transplanting them into another person, whose organs have got badly damaged due to some illness or accident . Dr Anu Sharma (Professor of Anatomy) sensitized the students about the importance of organ and body donation. They were told about the various organs which can be donated .The faculty of the Anatomy department, later, showed the students human organs taken from donated bodies to encourage organ donation. Organs which are suitable for transplant include the heart, kidneys, lungs, liver and pancreas. Certain organs, such as a kidney, can be donated by a living donor who can live a healthy lifestyle without the organ. In most cases, the donor chooses to donate his body organs after his death. The purpose of body organ donation is to help someone in need of the donated organs. There are instances when few individuals lose their vital body organs due to some ailments and if organs are transmitted from brain dead patients to the suffering patients then, their precious lives can be saves. A recently-conducted scientific study has unleashed the fact that one organ and tissue donor can impact the lives of nearly 50 individuals in a positive manner.
