Awareness programme at Global Heart and Multispeciality Hospital on eve of National Vascular Day
An awareness programme and press meet was held at Global Heart and Multispeciality Hospital , Ludhiana on the eve of National Vascular Day that is celebrated on 6th August every year. The meeting was headed by Dr Brajesh Badhan, Director Cardiology and was convened by Dr KC Mukherjee, Head, Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
Ludhiana, August 5, 2023: An awareness programme and press meet was held at Global Heart and Multispeciality Hospital , Ludhiana on the eve of National Vascular Day that is celebrated on 6th August every year. The meeting was headed by Dr Brajesh Badhan, Director Cardiology and was convened by Dr KC Mukherjee, Head, Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
Dr Luv Luthra, Consultant, Department of Vascular and Endo vascular Surgery at Global Heart and Multispeciality Hospital, talked about National Vascular day and Vascular and Endo vascular surgery.
The entire team unveiled the moto and mission of Amputation Free India that has been started by the vascular society of India. On the 6th of August the vascular surgeons are doing walkathons in 24 cities of India and spread awareness regarding vascular diseases and prevention of amputations.
Dr Luv enlightened us on various vascular diseases like varicose veins, peripheral vascular disease (gangrene) , diabetic foot disease, and carotid artery disease and the available minimal invasive treatments . He also said that Global Heart and Multispeciality Hospital is the only Hospital in the region where all kinds of vascular diseases involving brain, heart, limbs and abdomen are treated with the latest invasive techniques.
About amputations Dr Luv Luthra mentioned that there is one amputation every ten minutes. The main causes of amputation are diabetic feet, gangrene due to lack of blood supply in legs, deep vein thrombosis if untreated, trauma, sudden stoppage of blood due to thrombosis of arteries. He also said that all these amputations can be prevented if the patient sees a vascular surgeon on time. He has treated and operated more than 300 cases , most of whom were referred to or advised amputations in the last 2 years.
At Global Heart and Multispeciality Hospital all venous and arterial diseases are treated with the latest techniques. Varicose veins are treated with the newest laser machine 1940 laser that is the first one in punjab. We do bypasses as well as peripheral angioplasty and stenting to save limbs. For dialysis patients creation of arteriovenous fistula, perm cath insertions and all other procedures are done by our vascular team.
The main objective of this meeting is to spread awareness on vascular diseases, teach the general public and make them aware about vascular diseases and its treatment. The Global team has launched the programme of Amputation Free Punjab where we will educate and spread awareness on vascular diseases to prevent amputations.
In the last Dr Luv Luthra said that all the amputations are preventable if the patient is diagnosed and referred at the right time.
