Awareness Programme being organised by Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana on World Disability Day on Thursday. 

Ludhiana, December 3, 2015: World Disability Awareness Programme was organised by Fortis Hospital Ludhiana. Quiz competition and rounds of Interaction were held. The whole session was followed by question-answer round. Programme was held under the supervision of Dr.Ajay Pal Sandhu - Psychiatrist and Dr.Som Gupta HOD Physiotherapy Department, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana.
Giving information regarding Disability Dr. Som Gupta said, “because of the worldwide struggle of people with disabilities for equal rights, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was established by the United Nations on Dec. 3, 1992. Ever since, it has been celebrated around the planet to promote an understanding of disability issues and also mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of people with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of the gains from the integration of people with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
While speaking on the occasion Dr. Ajay Pal Sandhu – Psychiatrist, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, said, “If you have a disability or medical condition? You are not alone. Many people with disabilities have contributed to society. These include actors, actresses, celebrities, singers, world leaders, and many other famous people. Of course there are also millions of people worldwide who may not be famous in the sense society deems famous, but still live with, battle, and overcome their disabilities every single day of their lives”.
Mr. Vivan Singh Gill - Facility Director, said, “A disability is often used to refer to individual functioning, including physical impairment, sensory impairment, cognitive impairment, intellectual impairment, mental illness, and various types of chronic diseases. These lists are a constant work in progress and were created to prove that it is indeed possible to overcome the so called disability barrier.
Also present on the occasion were Dr. Harpreet Brar – Head Administration, Dr. Ankush Mehta - Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sanjeev Mahajan - Director Orthopaedics Department, Dr. Alok Jain and Dr.Deepak Gupta from Fortis Hospital Ludhiana.
