Awareness Seminar on EPR for Plastic Industry

Ludhiana, July 13, 2024: Gurmeet Singh Kular, President, FICO (Federation of Industrial & Commercial Organization) inaugurated the Awareness Seminar on EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) for Plastic Industry.
The Seminar was organized by Mankar Garg, Head, FICO Plastic Division and President, Plastic Manufacturers and Traders Association in association with the Punjab Pollution Control Board.
Parveen Saluja, Senior Environment Engineer and Shivani Gupta Assistant Environment Engineer were the Key Note Speakers on the Occasion.
The Session was attended by more than 100 manufacturers and traders of Plastic components.
Parveen Saluja Senior Environment Engineer Punjab Pollution Control Board said that the EPR means the responsibility of a producer for the environmentally sound management of the product until the end of its life. The Business Entities manufacturing/ trading Plastic Products need to register themselves under EPR are Producer, Importer, Brand owner and the Plastic Waste Processor engaged in recycling, waste to energy, waste to oil, and industrial composting.
Shivani Gupta Assistant Environment Engineer PPCB explained the EPR in detail and said that the business entities with turnover less than 50 Crore are exempted for registering under the EPR. She further said that plastic packaging categories are covered under EPR: are Rigid plastic packaging, Flexible plastic packaging of single layer or multilayer, plastic sheets or like and covers made of plastic sheet, carry bags, plastic sachet or pouches; Multilayered plastic packaging and the Plastic sheet or like used for packaging as well as carry bags made of compostable plastics.
Rajeev Jain, General Secretary, FICO said it is the need of the hour for the Plastic Component Manufacturers/ Traders to get themselves enrolled under the EPR, to avoid the hefty penalties.
