Panchkula, February 4, 2022: A health talk to mark World Cancer Day was held at Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula on Friday.
During the talk, Dr. Chitresh Aggarwal, consultant medical oncology and Dr Munish Mahajan, consultant surgical oncology aware of the common signs and symptoms of cancer.
They said that cancer is becoming one of the most common and fast spreading non-communicable diseases, not only in Indians but also among the people all over the world. Different cancers are prevalent in different communities and places. It has been estimated that by the year 2030, it will become the most common lifestyle disease surpassing cardiac disease and diabetes.
Dr. Chitresh insisted that one should not ignore tell-tale signs of cancer because these signs could help the doctor to catch the disease in early stage when it can be completely cured.
He tried to dispel two important misplaced beliefs and myths among general population, first that cancer is incurable and second that cancer treatment is expensive.
Many Cancers are currently being related to faulty lifestyle and environmental hazard, remarked Dr Chitresh.
Improper dietary habits, eating fast food, aerated drinks, excess sugars, caffeine, alcohol , smoking, lack of fresh fruits and salads and no regular exercise are important factors which make our body vulnerable to cancer, he pointed out.
Dr Munish Mahajan Consultant Surgical Oncology said that, People with family history should undertake annual screening programs as per approved guidelines, a minor tweak in lifestyle habits can reduce the risk of disease manifold. Lack of awareness of the disease leads to delayed detection and subsequently results in poor outcomes.
Dr. Chitresh Aggarwal along with Dr. Munish Mahajan treat their patients according to international standards of cancer therapy while retaining the humane touch and giving patients psychological and emotional support.
