Badal releases Punjabi poetry book ‘Gwache Warq’

Chandigarh, August 17, 2013: The Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today released a book of poems ‘Gwache Warq’ in Punjabi penned by an eminent author and columnist Bubbu Tir, the daughter of legendary Punjabi writer, legal luminary and Akali leader Dr. Gurnam Singh Tir, here at Punjab Bhawan in a simple but impressive function this morning. 

Addressing a distinguished gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister highly appreciated the writing skill of Bubbu Tir who inherited this rare acumen from her father, with whom he enjoyed cordial ties since long and often consulted him on several political issues.

Recalling his family ties with them, the Chief Minister said that Dr. Tir was God gifted with a wit of satire and earned a sobriquet of ‘Chacha Chandigariah’ through his prolific writings in the esteemed columns of the newspapers especially the vernacular hitting hard at the social evils which plagued the society as a pioneer of humorist writings. He said it was a matter of great pride that his daughter Bubbu Tir has perpetuated the legacy of great Punjabi writer and political visionary.

Badal said that the state government was committed to preserve the glorious cultural heritage of Punjab through the promotion of art, culture, language and literature. It was evident from the fact that we have constructed ‘Virasat-e-Khalsa, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur War Memorial, Chota Ghallughara and Wadda Ghallughara in the state to propagate our century old rich legacy and now another memorial ‘Jang-e-Azadi’ near Jalandhar and ‘War Memorial’ at Amritsar was coming up to showcase the enormous contribution of Punjabis in the National freedom struggle and role of our brave soldiers in safeguarding the borders of our country respectively. Our government got the status of Punjabi as official language through enacting a legislation thereby cherishing the aspirations of millions of Punjabi lovers especially the Punjabi writers who had been craving for this since long. He reiterated that fully realizing the huge contribution of writers in shaping the destiny of any country or nation, the state government would leave no stone unturned for their welfare, who had ever played a pivotal role in steering the nation as ‘opinion makers’.

Earlier, welcoming the guests on her book release function, Bubbu Tir said that she was really indebted to Badal for releasing her third book ‘Gwache Warq’.  She said though she was bi-lingual yet fully committed to Punjabi for over last one decade. Bubbu Tir said that she has always endeavored to bring about a positive change through her writings. She lauded the efforts of Badal for giving due respect and honor to the litterateurs and said lot more was still to be done for their well-being especially during the sun-set of their life. 

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion, included Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa besides eminent personalities from different walks of life.
