Bal Sansad in government schools to develop leadership skills in students

Ludhiana, July 19, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Friday stated that soon Ludhiana will become the first district in Punjab to introduce Bal Sansad, a parliament of children in government schools to develop leadership skills amongst them. 

Presiding over a meeting of the District Education Development Committee (DEDC) today, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the students will be able to take leadership roles and discuss and debate critical issues thus ensuring their participation and encouraging their civic sense at an early age. This will also make them a responsible and good citizen. 

Sawhney stated that Bal Sansad will be a forum at which students will express their views on various subjects, including their school, family, neighbours, society and can also talk about their rights freely. She also lauded the 45 schools where miyawaki forest will come up and will be looked after by the children under the Wake Up Ludhiana mission. She also discussed plans of launching AI learning shortly in schools in Ludhiana to ensure a future-ready workforce. 

In the meeting, Sawhney also emphasized the importance of ensuring every child in the district has access to quality education. According to a survey conducted by the education department in November-December of the previous year, 219 children from a school were identified, with 190 of them enrolled. The remaining 20 students moved back to their native states.

The Deputy Commissioner also looked into the progress of infrastructure development projects in schools across the district. The meeting covered discussions on current construction activities, midday meal programs, Student Support Assistance (SSA) programs, the E-Punjab portal, inclusive education for students with disabilities, the UDise survey, food grain distribution, toilet facilities, and more. She also reviewed the status of projects initiated under the MPLAD scheme.

Sawhney emphasized that education is a top priority for Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, with a special focus on strengthening government schools in Punjab.
