Bank retirees submit memorandum to DC Ludhiana

Ludhiana, August 21, 2019: Bank retirees of the country under the banner of All India Bank Retirees Federation, which has membership of more than 1.80 lac have been raising the demands of updation and improvement in family pension for the last 15 years.
As part of the agitational programme, the Ludhiana unit of North States Bank Retirees Federation of AIBRF, has today submitted resolution to the Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana, which was received by Dr.Poonam Preet Kaur, Assistant Commissioner (G).
The delegation of 35 members from different banks was led by chairman Com.V.K.Sood, President Com.R.L.Sood and Secretary Com.D.S.Reehal.
The finance secretary of the unit Com.M.S.Bhatia told that a resolution would also be presented to Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu shortly.
The resolution submitted to Dc Ludhiana today reads as under:
“Bank retirees of the country under the banner of All India Bank Retirees Federation, which has the membership of more than 1.80 lacs have been raising the demands of Updation and Improvement in family Pension for the last 15 years. Family pension in banks is only 15% of the last Pay drawn while in other sectors, it is 30 %. It becomes next to impossible to manage even basic requirements for family pensioners who happen to be women in 95 % cases with such meager pension. Family pension has not been revised even once in the last 25 years , despite more than 10 times increase in cost of living.
Similarly , in banks basic pension of pensioners have not been revised and updated in the last 25 years. Because of this basic pension of those retired prior to 2002 is almost 7 to 8 times lower than those retiring now. Those who retired in 2002 or prior to this and presently in the age group of 75 plus are facing serious financial crunch to manage their day to day life. They do not have enough money to buy even health insurance which is most essential need . Bank retirees have been raising this just and reasonable demand for the last several years.
We are happy to find that recently after continuous struggle of more than 15 years by RBI pensioners , Govt. of India has accepted their demand and sanctioned pension updation in RBI w e f Mar.2019.
Our apex level Organization , AIBRF has decided in its 5th National Conference to launch massive agitational programs on continuous basis to achieve these two major long pending demands of retirees besides others.
In order to implement call of AIBRF assembly of bank retirees from the city of Ludhiana was held on Saturday, 20th.July, 2019, in which more than 300 bank retirees were present. Among present were super citizens with more than 80 years of age . The assembly passed the following resolution in support of pending demands of retirees. Large number of retirees from nearby Ludhiana were also present in the meeting:-
“ More than 300 bank retirees present in the meeting were highly agitated and expressed their anger due to undue delay in sanctioning two very just and reasonable demands of bank retirees by the Govt. of India , Bank Managements and Indian Banks’ Association . The House unanimously resolved to request the Government to sanction the demands of improvement in family pension and updation of the basic pension without further delay and discharge its duty towards senior and super senior citizens of the country. In case the demands remain unconsidered , bank retirees in Ludhiana along with its brethren across the country will launch various agitational programs on continuous basis till the demands are met. The House also decided to make appeal to media and public to lend their support for these just and reasonable demands of bank retirees.”
