Ludhiana, May 21, 2016: Department of critical care and emergency, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana under guidance of Mr Vivan singh Gill, conducted a Basic life Support (BLS) and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) programme for prominent dentists of the Ludhiana city.

The programme was done by Dr Vinay Singhal, Dr.Amit Gupta, Dr.Prashant Puri, Dr.Vikas Sikri.

Programme was based to teach the skills of Basic Life Support for the victims in the community who need immediate attention for saving their precious lives. The society needs these kinds of skills for trauma, cardiac arrest or for any kind of emergency where a person becomes unconscious and immediate aid can be given till advanced services arrive or patient reaches the hospital. There is clear and consistent evidence of improved survival from cardiac arrest when a bystander performs CPR. Various steps of BLS are there to encourage immediate recognition of unresponsiveness, activation of the emergency response system, and initiation of CPR if the lay rescuer finds an unresponsive patient who is not breathing or not breathing normally (e.g., gasping). Rescuer is to initiate chest compressions and give rescue breaths in a sequence of Compression, Airway and Breathing(C-A-B). The rescuer should begin CPR with 30 chest compressions followed by 2 breaths.

The total of 25 dentists came to learn these skills and they performed the maneuver on the manikins to practice. Dr Ankush Mehta addressed the invited doctors and encouraged them to use these skills whenever need arises. He further advised to spread these teachings to lay persons so that the community can benefit as whole.
