Bathinda resident Jaspreet Singh writes to PM: `Respected PM, kindly look towards the welfare of beggars’
Ludhiana, June 15, 2019: Bathinda resident, writer and social worker Jaspreet Singh (28) has written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that according to a report presented by the Union Ministry of Social Welfare in the Parliament during 2018, there are more than 4 lakh beggars in the country, the largest of which is 81,000 beggars in the state of West Bengal. This is a serious matter for the country because due to beggars there is a huge loss to nation's reputation. He termed the issue as “serious issue”. Further, he wrote that the PM has a great and impressive place in the hearts of Indian people. The citizens of the country like to listen to him, and they also feel pleasure to work in the direction shown by Narendra Modi. In such a situation, the Prime Minister should make a call to the schools, orphan houses, old age homes and other social service organizations to start working on this collaboratively for the rehabilitation of beggars for which Mann Ki Baat can be a suitable mode for interaction. Jaspreet Singh further wrote that the number of beggars not only ruins the beauty of the world's largest democracy but sometimes, they also involved in the incidents like theft, robbery, and drugs. Police should also invigilate such matters very strictly, as there is also the possibility that few mafia rituals behind all this use to carry away toddlers or handicap people and later they are forcibly engaging them in this all. Singh said that he would like to request the state governments of the country to play a positive role towards this, while it has also been stated that there should be an effort to provide professional training to the beggars having good art, singing or dancing skills.
