Be a good human being, advises Justice Masih to young budding lawyers

Mohali, March 25, 2023: The Indian national round of the 14th edition of Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition was held at the Army Institute of Law here today.
Justice AG Masih, of Punjab and Haryana High Court, was the Chief Guest and delivered the inaugural address and commended the Sarin Mevmorial Legal Aid Foundation and the Netherlands’ Leiden University for continuing to prepare young minds in the growing field of international air laws.
Referring to the advent of artificial intelligence he said nothing can replace a human and he advised the participating law students from across the country that to be a good lawyer, honesty, hard work, and perseverance are essentials but more than anything else, one has to be a good human being and there is no competition in this field, he advised.
Sixteen teams from the top national law universities of India participated for the Indian national round out of which two teams qualified including West Bengal National University of Judicial Sciences, Kolkata, and the National Law University Jodhpur.
The day-long proceedings of the competition was judged by a panel of 35 jury members including four judges from the Panjab and Haryana High Court, including Justice Deepak Sibal, Justice Vikas Bahl, Justice, Jasjit Singh Bedi, and Justice Aman Chaudhary.
Senior lawyer and secretary general of the Foundation, M.L. Sarin expressed gratitude to the Army Institute of Law for hosting this event regularly since its inception and of course Leiden University which partnered with the Sarin Foundation to organize this unique moot court competition on air laws, the only one in the world.
The finals shall see top teams from Greece, the USA, Germany, France, Indonesia, Turkey, Singapore, the Netherlands, South Korea, Hongkong, Spain, China and India will compete for the top laurels in a virtual competition on 11-14th May 2023.
Nitin Sarin, Trustee, and an air-law specialist, in his welcome address said that this is the only moot court competition held in the world on air law and holds special importance since the Indian aviation industry is slated to grow many times in the coming decades.
The Foundation established in the fond memory of the late Shri H.L. Sarin, and Late Shri R.L. Sarin, is managed by young lawyers and law students to spread legal literacy and take up causes of general public importance for legal redressal, besides training young lawyers in air law through international moot court competition, he said.
The first ten editions of the competition were held in New Delhi, Dubai, Istanbul, Abu Dhabi, Bucharest, Beijing, Jakarta, Malta, Seoul, and Chandigarh. The last three editions were held virtually due to the pandemic.
Ranjul Malik of the Army Institute of Law was conferred by the chief guest Justice AG Masih and former chief justice S.S.Sodhi, the Sarin Foundation Best Mooter of the Year Award comprising a trophy and cash reward of Rs.50,000, which the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation has been conferring on the best mooters, informed M.L.
