Ludhiana, February 27, 2013: Be prepared for paying property tax in the near future. Ludhiana Municipal Corporation proposes to introduce property tax on the city residents from April 1 onwards.

According to available information, LMC proposes to divide the whole city into eight zones for the purpose.

Each zone will have different zone value, which will be fixed by a committee headed by the deputy commissioner.

It is learnt that a meeting for fixing the unit value will be held on February 28.

Meanwhile, a public hearing was held in LMC (Zone-A) office regarding objections filed by local residents against the constitution of zones for property tax on Tuesday. A total of 118 objections were filed by city residents.

The public hearing was given by a committee comprising among others of Director (Local Bodies), Ludhiana Municipal Commissioner, Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Ludhiana MP and MLAs.

Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu and former Congress councillor Parminder Mehta, represented Ludhiana MP Manish Tewari in the committee meeting.

As per the available information, of the total 982 colonies, more than 450 were shifted to other zones following the receipt of the objections by the city residents. However, the city residents were not seen satisfied with the meeting proceedings, which was evident from the fact that they were seen seriously arguing the matter with the committee members even after the meeting was over.
