In an extraordinary journey to China, Professor Kamal Mohan Chopra, representing the Offset Printers Association (OPA) under the esteemed aegis of the All India Federation of Printers and Packagers (AIFPP), had the rare privilege of visiting the iconic Beijing Central Business District (CBD)—a pulsating heart of global trade, economic dynamism, and boundless ambition.
Beijing CBD, which embarked on its transformative path in 1993, has since ascended to the ranks of the world’s most influential business districts. Today, it stands as the seventh most powerful business hub globally, second in Asia, and the undisputed leader in China in terms of business appeal. Spanning a core area of 7.04 square kilometres and impacting a vast 84-square-kilometre region, this economic powerhouse is home to global financial titans, multinational headquarters, and premier service industries—all driving Beijing’s position as a formidable global force.
Introducing this remarkable district, Rui Wang, Chief of the Development Division of the Beijing CBD Administration Committee, emphasized what makes it truly extraordinary: its unparalleled synergy of business, culture, and innovation. "Beijing CBD," she noted, "is the beating heart of international media, diplomacy, and commerce." It hosts 90% of Beijing’s foreign media, nearly every foreign embassy in China, and an unrivalled concentration of international conferences, financial institutions, and corporate giants. In 2020, its strategic importance was further solidified when it was designated as part of the Beijing Pilot Free Trade Zone—making it the only free trade hub within the city’s Fifth Ring Road.
Yet, beyond its staggering economic influence, Beijing CBD is a vibrant cultural and commercial beacon. It boasts a dazzling luxury retail sector, world-renowned Michelin and Black Pearl restaurants, and celebrated global events like the Beijing CBD Forum, Music Season, and Art Season. With a vision to build an international commercial district surpassing RMB 100 billion, it continues to redefine what it means to be a global epicentre of commerce, culture, and progress.
Reflecting on this transformative visit, Professor Chopra was deeply moved by the scale, ambition, and vision of this economic marvel. "Witnessing the grandeur of Beijing CBD was nothing short of awe-inspiring. The meticulous planning, the unwavering pursuit of excellence, and the seamless collaboration that fuels this district are a lesson for the world. There is so much to learn from this magnificent hub of innovation and prosperity."
As India’s printing and packaging industry charts its own path of evolution, engagements like these pave the way for deeper collaboration, groundbreaking innovation, and shared success on the world stage. Beijing CBD is not just a district—it is a testament to what vision, dedication, and relentless ambition can achieve.
