Bhagat urges farmers to stop stubble burning

Chandigarh, November 5, 2013: Chunni Lal Bhagat, Forest and Wild Life Preservation Minister, Punjab today urged the farmers of the state to stop stubble burning to keep the environment pollution free. He said that farmers could use stubble as organic fertilizer.

Bhagat advised the farmers to sell the stubble to the biomass plants to generate electricity. He said that the farmers could fetch a price of Rs. 1100 to 1400 per acre of stubble sale. He said that the farmers could contact biomass plants situated at village Gulabewala and Channu, district Mukatsar, village Gadda dob, district Ferozpur, village Bhagora, district Patiala and village Bijjo, district Hoshiarpur.

He said that the smoke erupted from the stubble burning is hazardous for health besides becoming the reason for many accidents.
