FOUR PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES; 5 STILL UNDERGOING TREATMENT WHILE OTHERS DISCHARGED: DEPUTY COMMISSIONER

Ludhiana: Punjab Food, Civil, Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Industry and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora on Tuesday morning visited and inspected the site in Baba Mukand Singh Nagar where a roof of a four-storeyed auto-part factory collapsed on Monday, killing four and injuring seven workers, while illegally raising the level of lintel with jacks.
 
Accompanied by MLA Sanjay Talwar, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation (PSIDC) chairman KK Bawa, OSD to CM Ankit Bansal, the Ministers called the incident very unfortunate and saddened and said that all possible assistance is being provided to the affected families and other injured. 

They said that a probe to find out the negligence on the part of any government official would be carried out to fix the responsibility and made it cleared whether a public servant or any other would not be spared if found complicit in this mishap. 

They added that Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had already announced a high-level probe by the Patiala Divisional Commissioner and Rs 2 lakh compensation each for the families of deceased besides free treatment for the injured labourers. 

The Cabinet Ministers further appealed to the people to not put any life at risk for their vested interest and take proper permission from concerned authorities if the work is allowed as per law besides ensuring all safety standards during the construction. 

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma told both ministers that NDRF along with SDRF, MC, Fire brigade, and local police have been working tirelessly since Monday morning and have rescued 36 labourers out of which five are under treatment among two are critical and others were discharged after giving first aid. He said that two persons in critical condition are undergoing treatment at SPS Hospital while three at Civil Hospital Ludhiana.

Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal also disclosed to them that a case has been registered against the owner and contractor and teams are behind to nab them.

Prominent among present occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh Bains, Joint CP Rural Sachin Gupta, SDM Amrinder Singh and others.

UPDATE 
As per Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana Varinder Kumar Sharma four deaths have been confirmed. He said 3rd floor has been cleared and nobody is trapped now. He added the work of debris clearance will continue. But debris clearance expected to take two more days. Work will be done daily sunrise to sunset. He said 5 injured persons are admitted in hospitals (2 in civil hospital and in 3 in SPS Hospital). Of these injured, 2 are critical. The bodies of deceased persons have been handed over to next of kin and sent to Bihar for burial.
