Ludhiana, April 1, 2024: The district administration in Ludhiana conducted a detailed discussion with government departments and NGOs under the Bhikhiya Se Sikhiya Tak project to address the issue of child begging. The Deputy Commissioner, Sakshi Sawhney, directed District Development Fellow Ambar Bandopadhyay, Red Cross Society Secretary Navneet Joshi and other officials to seek suggestions from NGOs to prepare a roadmap to deal with the problem.

The officials informed NGOs that the administration aims to bring children out of the practice of begging and enroll them in schools to connect them with mainstream society and contribute to its development. They emphasized the need to find the root causes of this problem at the grassroots level to form an effective strategy. They also appealed to the public not to encourage begging by giving alms.

Before the formal launch of the project, a massive awareness campaign will be initiated in the city.
