Bihar Rajbhasha Award for PU Professor
Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Department of Hindi, Panjab University has been chosen for the prestigious Babu Ganga Sharan Singh Award (2021-22) under the Hindi Sevi Samman by the Govt of Bihar, as per the letter received from the Bihar Government Cabinet Secretariat (Rajbhasha Division).
Chandigarh, July 4, 2023: Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Department of Hindi, Panjab University has been chosen for the prestigious Babu Ganga Sharan Singh Award (2021-22) under the Hindi Sevi Samman by the Govt of Bihar, as per the letter received from the Bihar Government Cabinet Secretariat (Rajbhasha Division). Prof. Singh will receive a citation and a cash prize of Rs 50,000 as the part of the award which is conferred to experts in Hindi for playing a significant role in promoting Hindi Language in non-Hindi areas. The award will be conferred in an upcoming ceremony to be held on 31 st July 2023 at Patna.
Prof. Gurmeet Singh has also served as ICCR Hindi Chair-Visiting Professor at University of Naples L'Orientale, Italy in 2022 and as a visiting professor at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS), Uzbekistan in 2021. As a part of his assignments, Prof. Singh organized various academic and cultural events to promote Hindi at both Universities.
During his tenure as Chairperson, Department of Hindi (2017-2020), Prof. Singh undertook a number of new and novel initiatives and presently he is a member of the Senate for the third term. Prior to beginning a career as an academician, Prof. Singh has also served as a journalist in prominent Hindi dailies and has been awarded for the coverage of the Kargil war by the Govt of Punjab. He also has to his credit 'Best Book Award' by Chandigarh Sahitya Academy in 2017;State award by Haryana Sahitya Academy for Literary Journalism in 2008.
