Dharamsala, December 18, 2023: A day before the winter session of the Assembly in Dharamsala, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a protest rally against the Himachal Pradesh government. The rally, held on Monday, saw the participation of BJP workers from 15 assembly constituencies of Kangra district. This demonstration was part of BJP's ongoing protests against the Congress government, which recently celebrated its one-year completion in Dharamshala on December 11.
Jairam Thakur, Leader of Opposition, expressed disappointment with the one-year tenure of the Congress government, accusing it of diverting government funds toward its associates instead of fulfilling election promises. Thakur highlighted issues such as inflation, unemployment, and corruption affecting the people of the state. He also criticized the government for not granting due rights to Kangra and Mandi districts. After completion of one year, the government has just given another minister to Kangra, but in reality the people of Kangra have still not got their true rights.
Thakur reminded that the Chief Minister had promised to fulfill 10 guarantees in the first cabinet meeting after forming the government, but a year later, the commitments remain unfulfilled. He pointed out delays in the recruitment process and criticized the government's initiatives, such as providing 300 units free electricity, 1500 rupees of financial assistance to women, and purchasing cow dung, as mere election slogans. Thakur also raised concerns about deteriorating law and order in the state.
Rajiv Bindal, another BJP leader, accused the Congress government of celebrating while 500 lives were lost in the recent disaster. He asserted that the government, in its one-year tenure, has failed to achieve significant milestones and criticized its inability to fulfill any of the promised guarantees.
