BJP MLAs demand fulfilment of promises in Himachal Pradesh

Dharamshala, December 21, 2023: In a unique display of dissent, BJP MLAs led by their leader of opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, turned milkmen just before the start of the assembly session here.
Holding milk-filled utensils and chanting slogans, they gathered in the Vidhan Sabha campus here on Thursday to protest against the unfulfilled promises made by the Congress government in the state.
Their main grievance was the alleged failure of the Congress to honour its promise to purchase cow and buffalo milk at Rs 80 and Rs 100 per liter, respectively, a key promise made during the previous assembly elections. Thakur addressed the media, questioning the fate of this "ten guarantee" pledge and highlighting the farmers' frustration after a year of waiting.
The former Chief Minister further emphasized the plight of dairy farmers, struggling with low milk procurement prices hovering around Rs 30-32 per liter in rural areas. He also expressed skepticism about the government's recently announced plan to start milk procurement from January 2024, saying that people have lost faith in their empty promises.
This milk-wielding protest served as a potent symbol of the simmering discontent among dairy farmers and the BJP's attempt to hold the government accountable.
