Dharamshala, August 3, 2024: Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj, the newly elected BJP MP from Kangra Chamba parliamentary constituency, has proposed an ambitious plan to boost tourism in the region by constructing a ropeway to the peak of the Dhauladhar mountain range. Dr. Bhardwaj highlighted the unique geographical significance of the Dhauladhar range and its potential as a major tourist attraction.

Dr Bhardwaj  informed ,"In my parliamentary constituency, we have the Dhauladhar mountain range, which is the world's closest snow line. There's no snow line so accessible anywhere else, not even in Switzerland. Despite this, we have not yet been able to take tourists to the peak of the Dhauladhar mountain range.” He emphasized the importance of protecting the environment and maintaining ecological balance while developing this project.

Dr. Bhardwaj said that he  has requested the central government to consider this project, which he believes will not only attract global tourists but also significantly boost the local economy. "Dharamshala is already an international tourist destination, home to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. We need to explore more tourist attractions in the region," he added.

The Dhauladhar range, known for its distinctive dark granite rocky formations and steep, snow-capped peaks, stretches from near Dalhousie in the northwest to the Beas River in Kullu district. The highest peak, Hanuman Tibba, stands at 5,982 meters (19,626 feet) above sea level, with several other peaks close to 5,500 meters (17,000 feet). The range is notable for its near-vertical incline, making it a challenge for trekkers and mountaineers, yet offering rich pastures near the crest for grazing.

The proposed ropeway project aims to make the snow line of Triund, the nearest and most accessible in the Indian Himalayas, more reachable to tourists. This initiative could also enhance access to popular trekking routes, including the Indrahar Pass, which forms the border between Kangra and Chamba districts and is part of a popular trekking route from Dharamshala.

Dr. Bhardwaj's proposal has been raised in the Lok Sabha, urging the government to approve the project. "This ropeway will become a center of attraction for the whole world, increase tourist numbers, and strengthen the economy of Himachal Pradesh," he asserted.
