New Delhi, Feb 4 (IANS) Almost a fortnight before the polling, the BJP on Friday released a song for the Punjab Assembly polls. The BJP Punjab campaign song is sung by party Lok Sabha member and Bhojpuri actor-singer Manoj Tiwari.
Song titled 'Punjab Umar Ke Bola Hun Rang De Basanti Chola' was released on social media.
Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri gave creative inputs for the song and video. The BJP has already released campaign songs for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. BJP in-charge of national information and technology department Amit Malviya shared the video of the almost five minute-long campaign song on Twitter.
The song highlights Narendra Modi government's initiatives for Sikhs and Punjab. The song says that Prime Minister Modi is living for the country and has dedicated his life to the nation.
It is learnt that Union Minister Puri, BJP's election co-incharge for the Punjab Assembly polls, personally oversaw the creative part of the song's video and held several rounds of discussion to ensure that it comes out well.
"Union minister and party election in-charge Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also gave its valuable input in the song along with Puri. Shekhawat suggested to include some current topics like the drug addiction in the state," a party insider said.
The song talks about opening of the Kartarpur corridor, removing GST on langar, delivering justice to 1984 riots and Prime Minister Modi ensuring help to Punjab at every step.
Eyeing the about 32 per cent Dalit population of Punjab, which play a decisive role in polls, the song talked about the Modi government's decision to develop five places as 'Panchteerth' associated with Dr B.R. Ambedkar. The song mentioned the Modi government's decision to repeal the three farm laws.
The song also talks about the government celebrating 'Prakash Parv' of Guru Nanak Dev, Guru Govind Singh and Guru Tegh Bahadur.
Tiwari told IANS that this is his first song in Punjabi flavour. "I have sung 4,996 songs till date and this is my first song with Punjabi flavour. I am feeling honoured to get the chance to sing in Punjabi flavour. People of Punjab will understand the works done by the Modi government for Punjab and support the BJP-led NDA in the Assembly polls," Tiwari said.
Tiwari already released two campaign songs for Uttar Pradesh and released one more in the next few days.
Amid the restriction put by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on rallies and public meetings, the political parties have launched a musical war against each other with catchy songs to woo voters in the poll-bound five states.
