Ferozepur, April 21, 2013: On  Saturday, Bhatri Kissan Union (BKU Lakhowal), in its meeting held under the leadership of Block President Avtar Singh Sandhu, in which Resham Singh, Jarnail Singh, Bhajan Singh, Bakhshish Singh, Darshan Singh, Mahasha Singh, Kashmir Singh and Amrik Singh farmer leaders were present, condemned the levying of property tax on agriculture land of the farmers.

Block President, Sandhu on this occasion said that the BKU will protest against the levying of property tax on the farmers land within the municipal council limit of 8 KMs by the Punjab Government.  He further said, the Punjab Government is torturing the farmers’ community by levying the property tax when the farmers of the nation are already economically weak and are not getting the reasonable price of their produce over and above the investments on inputs.

The BKU unanimously decided not to pay the property tax.

Giving a logic, he said, the property tax imposed by the Centre Government is not even equivalent to the cost of the produce after meeting all the inputs expenses and this policy is to snatch the lands of the farmers which will not be tolerated at any cost.

On this occasion, Baldev Singh, Jarnal Singh, Jagjit Singh the leaders of BKU condemned the anti-farmers policy and threatened to intensify the agitation in case the decision is not rolled back.
