Ludhiana, August 9, 2023: In a bonanza for the contractual employees, the state government has regularised the jobs of contractual employees which have crossed the upper age limit for regularisation too.
Under the recent policy notified by the state government, the contractual employees who have been working in the MC continuously for last 10 years and above, have been regularised. These include sweepers/sewermen, beldars, drivers, gardeners etc.
Ludhiana city MLAs including Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, Madan Lal Bagga, Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Ashok Prashar Pappi, Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina and MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal addressed the media persons at MC Zone D office on Wednesday. They congratulated the employees who have been regularised and lauded the state government for the historic decision.
The legislators stated that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led state government had earlier regularised the contractual employees (sweepers and sewermen) of MC, but a number of employees were left behind as they had crossed the upper age limit for regularisation, which is 37 years for general category and 42 years for SC category.
The legislators stated that they had taken up the matter with the state government. In this historic decision taken by the state government for the welfare of employees, majority of those employees would also now be regularised including sewermen/sweepers, beldars, drivers, gardeners. The decision has been taken for welfare of employees as they have given prime years of their life in service.
Lists of contractual MC employees, covered under this policy, are being prepared and would be forwarded to state government. The civic body officials have also appealed the eligible employees to submit their required documents with the authorities, so that this process can be completed before August 31.
The legislators stated that they will also take up the cases of remaining employees with the state government and those will also be regularised in the coming time.
The legislators stated that the AAP led state government is committed for the welfare of the residents and historic decisions are being taken to bring relief to the public.
Municipal Employees Sangharsh Committee led by Chairman Ashwani Sahota and President Jasdev Singh Sekhon have also thanked the state government for regularising the remaining contractual employees.
