Book “Bhimsen Joshi- The Voice of the People” released 

Hyderabad: ICCR and Surmandal in their series of tributes to the Legends organised Jaltarang and Vocal Recital by Shri Milind Tulankar(Jaltarang) and Dr. Nagaraj Hawaldar(Vocal) here in the city on Saturday, 8th February at 6.30pm at Pingali Venkatramreddy Hall, Lower Tank Bund Road, Hyderabad.
 
Over 100 music lovers witnessed their performance.
 
Among others who graced the concert include Mr Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Govt of Telangana.
Jayesh Ranjan, Principle Secretary unveiled “Bhimsen Joshi—The Voice of the People”, a book written by Dr. Nagaraj Rao Havaldar.
 
Shri Milind Tulankar, performed Jaltarang, then followed by Dr. Nagaraj Hawaldar, gave his Vocal performance.
 
The book is a human side of Pt Bhimsen Joshi. He is a ticketless travelled in search guru said Dr Nagaraj. I have documented human side of my guru in this bio he added.
 
Later Dr Nagaraju started his performance in Rag Bhogi raag, which guru, apt Bhimsen Joshi was very much fond of.
 
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), an autonomous organisation of the Government of India, involved in India’s external cultural relations, through cultural exchange with other countries and their peoples. And Hyderabad based  Surmandal a 50years old organization in the service of the music together they have organised the concert.
 
The artists were accompanied by Rahul Deshpande at Harmonium, Harijit Singh  and Shri Ganesh Tanwadeon Table.
 
The Jal Tarang is a melodic percussion instrument. It consists of a set of ceramic, China, or metal bowls filled with various levels of water. It is an ancient. In this act,  china bowls filled with different levels of water are struck by means of two cane sticks.  Thus a melodious music is produced.  This music is originated in Indian Sub Continent. 
 
Milind Tulankar is an indian Jal-tarang player. He started learning music from a very tender age. His grand father Late Pandit Shankar Kanhere who was a famous Jal-tarang player influenced Milind in taking up this unusual dying instrument, the Jal-tarang. Along with that Milind is proficient in playing Santoor, Tabla and Harmonium. His mother who is a vocalist has seen to it that along with a good instrumentalist he is a good singer too.
 
 Milind's Grandfather and Guru late Pt. Shankarrao Kanhere was an accomplished Jal-tarang player from Satara, a small town in Maharashtra, India. 'A' graded artist of All India Radio, he played in numerous concerts all over India and popularised the instrument. He was trained in music by late Pt. Dattopant Mangalwedhekar from Pandharpur. Aesthetic development of a raga structure and command of rhythm were the highlights of his style. He has written a book on this instrument, published by Sanget-Karyalay, Hatharas.
 
Malaysia, Singapore, Austria, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, USA and Canada, Dubai, Aabudhabi are the countries where he has presented his art. He is been doing some interesting projects with Ustad Toufiq Qureshi. A BBC production film 'West is west' has background scores played on Jalatarang by him. Milind Tulankar is indeed a name, synonym for the untiring efforts, devotion, and endless passion in pursuit of promoting Jaltarang
 
Dr. Nagaraj Rao Havadar gave his vocal performance. He is a well known name in the field of Hindustani Classical music.  As a part of his study for the “Sangeeta Ratna” Degree, he was taught by Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, Pt. Basavraj Rajguru, Pt. Sangameshwar Gurav and such luminaries. 
 
He received advanced training in Kirana Gharana from Pt. Madhava Gudi, who was the prime disciple of none other than Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.   He is the founding president of Sunaada Art Foundation, established to promote and nurture Hindustani music.  He has also authored many articles on contemporary and past musicians and music related personalities.
 
Entry to the concert is free and all music lovers are welcome
