The Department of History, Panjab University hosted a thought-provoking book discussion on Prof. Kuldip Singh's seminal book, "Punjab River Waters Dispute in South Asia", published by Routledge Publishers (2024). Singh’s work examines the controversy's history, politics, and impact on the region, exploring its complexities and implications since India's partition.

Chandigarh, March 5, 2025: The Department of History, Panjab University hosted a thought-provoking book discussion on Prof. Kuldip Singh's seminal book, "Punjab River Waters Dispute in South Asia", published by Routledge Publishers (2024). Singh’s work examines the controversy's history, politics, and impact on the region, exploring its complexities and implications since India's partition. 

Prof. Anju Suri welcomed the guests and audience as well followed by floral welcome of the guests by Prof Priyatosh Sharma, Dr. Jasbir Singh, and Dr. Ashish Kumar. Dr. Jasbir Singh, chairperson, Department of History formally welcome the guests and audience. Prof Anju Suri presented the Department profile. 

Three panelists discussed on the various aspects of the book including, historical, political, technical, strategical, cultural etc. Prof Kuldip Singh,Guru Nanak Dev University, the author of the book thanked the department and the panelists before narrating the journey of the making of the book. He told about the past and the beginning of the disputes and differentiated the riparian and the basin regions of the Indus river and its tributaries. Prof. Sukhdev Singh Sohal, Guru Nanak Dev University, threw light on the historical perspective, the root, nature and the challenges related to the theme. He further highlighted the approaches of the colonial state and the nation state. Prof. Ronki Ram, Panjab University, added his remarks by highlighting various un discussed issues which need to be discussed. 

Prof. Harjinder Singh, Former Professor Guru Ramdas School of Planning, suggested the book as a reference book and talked about the Eradi Commission and its impact. The event was followed by a knowledge sharing question-answer session. Prof. Ranjit Singh Ghuman, Guru Nanak Dev University, presided the event and offered his illuminating precentral remarks. Dr. Ashish Kumar, Department of History offered the formal vote of thanks. The session was witnessed by various and research scholars of various departments. Prof. Sukhmani Bal Riar, Prof. Satwinder Kaur, Dr. Ravinder, DrHarjinder Singh Dilgeer, Er. Tarjinder Singh, JitenderMohar (Movie maker) etc. were also present there.
