Book on “Patterns of Crop Diversification in Himachal Pradesh: A Spatio-Temporal Study” released at PU

Chandigarh, October 20, 2023: A book on “Patterns of Crop Diversification in Himachal Pradesh: A Spatio-Temporal Study” was released by Dean Faculty Arts, Prof. Anju Suri at the Department of Geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh. 

The book is authored by Dr.Shilpa Devi who is currently working as ICSSR Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof. Gaurav Kalotra, Chairperson Department of Geography, Prof. Krishna Mohan, Prof.Karanjot Kaur Brar, Prof.Ravindra Kaur, Dr.Navneet Kaur, Dr.Vishwa Bandhu, and Dr.Sucha Singh were present at the book release ceremony. The author highlighted that crop diversification is a very significant subject of study in agriculture geography which has both theoretical and practical importance. The book conceptualizes the concept of crop diversification which is based on extensive literature review. To solve various problems faced by farmers of Himachal Pradesh crop diversification has been recommended as a practical solution. Crop diversification has impacted livelihood of farmers in the state positively.  Therefore, the book analyses the patterns of crop diversification in Himachal Pradesh in a space time scenario.

The book gives us an elaborative analysis about the status of agriculture situation in Himachal Pradesh and its neighbouring Himalayan states. It also highlights the spatio-temporal changes in patterns of crop diversification and the factors responsible for such changes in the state of Himachal Pradesh at district and tehsil level. The book has attempted to examine the role of farmers in crop diversification in the state at household level.  It also investigates the role of crop diversification and crop specialization in agricultural transformation in the state. Geographers, Economists and other scholars of social sciences will find this book informative and helpful. Prof. Anju Suri congratulated Dr.Shilpa Devi for bringing out an excellent piece of research work on the changing patterns of crop diversification in Himachal Pradesh.
