A book release and Panel Discussion on the book entitled ‘Jang Jari Hai’ of Surinder Singh Seerat, American Punjabi Poet, was organized in the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, December 11, 2023: A book release and Panel Discussion on the book entitled ‘Jang Jari Hai’ of Surinder Singh Seerat, American Punjabi Poet, was organized in the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh.
In his welcome Prof. Gurpal Singh, Academic Incharge of the Department, said that modern times need more attention towards crucial problems like identity, existence, struggles, recognition and affirmation in today's World, where everything is complex and hard to decode to the world. Diaspora is facing a new kind of phenomenon across the globe. Diaspora is affecting the others and also being affected by the others. This is the age of transmission and transformation.
The poet Surinder Singh Seerat, said that this piece of work is an epitome of his understanding and experience of a diaspora in the other’s land. Being a member of the diaspora community it is different to feel both native and settler at the same time.
The Chief-Guest Azaib Singh Chatha a Canadian social activist said that the present piece of work has a significant impact on the society. It is essential to a community or group to understand the phenomena happening around him and without understanding the phenomena it may lead to self destruction; eventually leading to total extinction.
In his presidential address, Dr. Sarabjit Singh, Chairperson, School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh Said that such kind of work is urgent for the sake of awareness of the community and people group. These kinds of works give us a glimpse of struggles, efforts and hopes of a community in an alien nation. More works like this must be produced in a large amount for the audience who feel the same and want to know more about the life of the Diaspora.
Many scholars, guests and students participated in the discussion. Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur and many others actively participated in the discussions. At the end of Talk, Dr. Gurpal Singh gave a vote of thanks to all the members and participants.
