A book release and Panel Discussion on the Poetic collection entitled Maha-Khamoshi (Great Silence) of Dr. Mohinder Gill, a renowned British Punjabi Poet, was organised in the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, PU Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, March 18, 2025: A book release and Panel Discussion on the Poetic collection entitled Maha-Khamoshi (Great Silence) of Dr. Mohinder Gill, a renowned British Punjabi Poet, was organised in the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, PU Chandigarh. 

In his welcome address Prof. Gurpal Singh, Academic-in-Charge of the Department introduced the main themes of the collection and about the poet. He shared his long deep memories with the poet in the UK. He said that poetry is the utmost way of conveying the message to the audience of all types. 

The chief guest was Prof Deepak Manmohan Singh. The Guest of Honor was Darshan Bulandavi, a well known British Poet. He said that the modern diasporic Punjabi poetics has its unique place in the Punjabi community. Modern Punjabi poetry reflects the prospects and retrospects of the society. 

In the Panel Discussion, Dr. Harmel Singh, Dr. Parmjit Singh, Dr. Rajesh, and Dr. Ravinder Dhaliwal presented research papers. The main crux and content of papers presented was the place and importance of the Punjabi poetry in the modern discourses. The Punjabi diaspora has a great strength and circulation of Punjabi language and culture. Prose and poetry are the two famous mediums of communication, but poetry makes a deeper impact and effect on the psyche of the people. Poetry creates a meaningful dialogue among the masses through emotion and feelings. That’s why poetry became most popular during the independence movement. A vast message was given through the poetry. The present collection encompasses the history, mystery and hope of Punjabi people abroad. 

Poets like Dr. Mohinder Singh must carry forward the legacy and light. The poet shared his views about the collection and his life journey. He recited many pieces of his collection to the audience. In his presidential remarks, Prof. Sarbjit Singh said that contemporary progressive poetry has moved beyond traditional metaphors and has expanded his scope. 

On this occasion, Dr. Nirmal Singh, Dr. Davinder Singh, Dr. Santokh Singh Hare, Dr. Shinderpal Singh from UK, Dr. Uma Sethi, Daman Singh, a research scholar from Italy and many others attended the event and shared his views. Many litterateur, poetry lovers, scholars, guests and students from all over the world participated in the event. Stage was conducted by Dr. Sukhwinder Singh. At the end of Talk, Dr. Gurpal Singh gave a vote of thanks.
