Book release function of Panjab University Punjabi-English Dictionary
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today released the Punjabi-English Dictionary prepared by the Department of Punjabi Lexicography, published by Publication Bureau, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, August 2, 2022: Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today released the Punjabi-English Dictionary prepared by the Department of Punjabi Lexicography, published by Publication Bureau, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He stressed upon the importance of bi-lingual regional languages in the context of New Education Policy. The Dictionary contains the vocabulary of Semitic, Sanskrit sources and dialects of Punjabi language prevalent in Punjabi. Apart from this, the conceptual, literary, technical vocabulary of different social sciences has also been included in this monumental work of nearly 950 pages. The dictionary, we trust, would cater to the academic needs of Punjabi and English translators, researchers, teachers and students.
Prof. Kamal Nain, Director, Publication Bureau, Panjab University, Chandigarh welcomed the worthy Vice-Chancellor, Dean of University Instruction, faculty members and all others present in the function. He also apprised about the publication of the dictionary in detail. Prof. Uma Sethi threw light on the preparation and lexical problems faced during editing and compilation of dictionary. She also stressed upon the various aspects of this dictionary. She expressed her gratitude for the support of PU Authority, Former Honorary Director of Publication Bureau Prof. Gurpal Singh Sandhu and the Chairperson, School of Punjabi Studies Prof. Sarabjit Singh. Prof. Yog Raj Angrish, Prof. O.P. Vasishta, Dr. Akwinder Kaur Tanvi, Sh.Jatinder Maudgil, Manager of PU Press, Public Relation Officer of PU, research scholars and the computer experts involved in the computerization process, Kulwinder Singh and Rashpal Singh and also the technical staff of Publication Bureau graced the occasion.
