Kapurthala, July 11, 2024: Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated World Population Day with great enthusiasm, focusing on this year's theme: "World Population Day reminds us that investing in data collection is crucial for understanding problems, tailoring solutions and driving progress." Around 100 students and teachers from all over Punjab participated in  the event.

Dr. Chandera Shekar Singh , Head of Department, Sociology, Lovely Professional University was the key speaker at this occasion. He delivered a special talk titled "Booming Population and its Impact on Humanity: Challenges and Pollution."  Dr. Sharma highlighted the various impacts of human population growth on the Earth. He mentioned the increasing extraction of resources like fossil fuels, minerals, trees, water, and wildlife, especially from the oceans. He stated that as the population grows, many people consume resources and produce significant waste, making it critical to manage resources effectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Er. Ritesh Kumar Pathak, Scientist-D said that United Nations projects the world population to reach 9.2 billion by 2050. He pointed out the gap between population growth and efforts to preserve the environment and conserve natural resources. He alerted that if the rapid  population growth   is not managed properly, it could severely impact future environmental sustainability.

The celebration included a street play and a declamation competition on the theme of World Population Day. Result of Competition : n the street play competition, the first prize was achieved by Army Public School Beas. The second prize was won by Mandi Harding Gunj Girls Senior Secondary School Kapurthala, and Kamla Nehru Public School Phagwara stood third. In the declamation competition, Namarta Bansal from Kamla Nehru Public School clinched the first prize. The second and third prizes were bagged by Hargun from MGN Public School Jalandhar and Simrjot Kaur Bawa from Lalbani Public School Kapurthala, respectively.
