LUDHIANA, MAY 17, 2018: Braille Bhawan Jamalpur would soon have various playgrounds for visually impaired students and other inmates.
The playgrounds include Football, Cricket, and Kabbadi, Athletics (Shot put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, and Long Jump), Sports Activity room and Gym.
The department of social security, women and child development has already sanctioned a whopping amount of Rs 42.39 lakh for the construction of the grounds in the state' lone institute for the blind persons.
Braille Bhavan complex is spread over 13 acres and houses co-education high school for visually impaired students, Training centre for teachers for visually impaired, a vocational rehabilitation centre for the blind, Braille Press.
Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, who has made wholehearted efforts to kick-start the project, said that the playgrounds would give an opportunity to the students for not only to take part in the games but to showcase their skills besides regular practice in the grounds.
He said that work on the grounds would start soon as the tenders have also been floated by engineering wing of Markfed and would complete within five months.
Child Development Program Officer-cum-Officiating head Braille Press, Gurcharan Singh thanked Punjab Government and Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Agrawal for his effusive support and said that it was Deputy Commissioner’s commitment towards this project which did wonder for ensuring that the project gets starts well in time.
He said that the project would prove to be a major boon for the inmates.
