Breast feeding week observed at DMC&H
The Department of paediatrics at DMC&H observed Breastfeeding Week 1st to 7th August, 2024 with the theme “Bridging the Gap: Support for All” which was resonated throughout the event, highlighting the need for community and healthcare support for breastfeeding mothers.
Ludhiana, August 06, 2024: The Department of paediatrics at DMC&H observed Breastfeeding Week 1st to 7th August, 2024 with the theme “Bridging the Gap: Support for All” which was resonated throughout the event, highlighting the need for community and healthcare support for breastfeeding mothers.
Department of Paediatrics, Obst. and Gynaecology, Dietetics and DMC&H College of Nursing conducted a week long activities to create awareness about breast feeding and emphasized the critical importance of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers.
In his message, Sh Bipin Gupta, Secretary DMC&H Managing Society lauded the efforts of all the department to conduct such awareness activities and highlighted that DMC&H is always in the forefront to create awareness among the masses with the aim to create a supportive environment where all mothers feel empowered to breastfeed.
Dr. Puneet A. Pooni, Professor& Head of Pediatrics highlighted how breast milk provides essential nutrients, strengthens the immune system, and supports cognitive development in babies. She also highlighted that breastfeeding helps mothers with postpartum recovery and reduces the risk of certain cancers and chronic conditions.
Dr Kamaldeep Arora Professor and Dr Karambir Gill Assistant Professor of Pediatrics said that we have lactation counsellor nurses in the hospital who guide mothers to do breast feeding.
Shaveta Batta, Incharge Dietetics highlighted that nutrition for mother is equally important both during pregnancy and postpartum.
A declamation contest was held for Resident Doctors of Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology. The Department of Dietetics performed a role play illustrating the benefits of breastfeeding and its positive impact on early childhood development. Additionally, nursing students conducted a poster-making competition at the General OPD Block, creating informative posters to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and provide support to all mothers. These events aimed to educate and engage both healthcare professionals and the general public.
Judges included Mukesh Kumar, Treasurer DMC&H Managing Society and Medical Supdt. Dr Sandeep Sharma, Dr Deepak Bhat, Professor of Paediatrics, Dr Pooja Tondon Professor of Obst. & Gyane, Dr G S Dhooria, Professor of Pediatrics and Dr Triza Jiwan, Principal, DMC&H College of Nursing. The winning team was awarded prizes for their outstanding performance.
