Bry-Air achieves impressive milestone with 100th eye camp

New Delhi, April 11, 2022: Bry-Air, the flagship company of Pahwa Group carrying forward the legacy of Dr. Mathra Das Pahwa organized the 100th Eye Camp on 10th April 2022 under the Dr. Mathra Das Pahwa – Vision Outreach Program at Mathra Das Civil Hospital, Moga in collaboration with Moga based NGO Bhartiya Jagriti Manch. The Eye Camp was visited by prominent dignitaries and Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora, MLA, Moga graced the occasion with her presence.
It was the first eye camp post the COVID-19 pandemic and reached the remarkable milestone of 100th camp. Over the years approximately 34570 people have attended the camp with 2680 people receiving cataract surgeries and 21300 spectacles being distributed. Various eye related medicines have also been distributed in the camps. To reach out to as many people as possible, the camp has been taken beyond Punjab and conducted in the states of Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi to be of service to the society across the country.
These Eye Camps were started in the memory of Dr. Mathra Das Pahwa who was an eminent eye surgeon and an avid philanthropist. During his lifetime, he had conducted over half a million surgeries and had worked tirelessly in the Field of Vision. He had set a record of conducting 750 operations in a single day rising to prominence as the world’s greatest eye operator and won epithets such as Netra-Dev (God of the eyes). Owing to his remarkable work he has been honored with many awards viz. the Padma Shri (1954), the title of Rai Bahadur (1921), Kesari Hind- Gold Medal (1924), Kesari Hind- Silver Medal (1912), etc. for his services to the society.
On the occasion, Anandita Pahwa, Head of CSR Initiatives, Pahwa Group said, “We are highly proud to have reached the impressive milestone of organizing the 100th Eye Camp. Due to the pandemic, we were unable to conduct the camp for the past two years, but still, we tried our best to be of service to society in every way possible during those difficult times. With things coming back to normal we organized the camp this year, staying true to our resolve of improving the health of the people through our programme, especially in the field of vision.”
A short film on the life and achievements of late Dr. Mathra Das Pahwa was screened on the event.
Touched by the warmth and respect continuously showered on the Pahwa family and the fond memories and bonding of the people of Moga with the family, Varun Pahwa (President, DRI) and great grandson of Dr. Mathra Das Pahwa said, “There are many people in our country who are suffering from some sort of eye problems, but are unable to get treatment due to financial constraints. Being a socially responsible company, we want to reach out to as many people as possible who are suffering from eye diseases to help them cure the disease in a very cost-effective way. This is our way of paying homage to our late great grandfather Dr. Mathra Das Pahwa by carrying forward his legacy of working for the welfare of the society.”
