Frontier Headquarters BSF Punjab Jalandhar is hosting the BSF Inter Frontier Competitions of Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Kabaddi and Gymnastics, which was declared open by  Himmat Singh, Additional Director General, BSF on Monday in an impressive and colourful ceremony held at Ashwini Stadium, BSF Campus, Jalandhar Cantt.

Jalandhar, January 28, 2013: Frontier Headquarters BSF Punjab Jalandhar is hosting the BSF Inter Frontier Competitions of Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Kabaddi and Gymnastics.  Sportsmen of 11 Frontiers of Border Security Force are participating in the Competition.

The meet was declared open by  Himmat Singh, Additional Director General, BSF today in an impressive and colourful ceremony held at Ashwini Stadium, BSF Campus, Jalandhar Cantt.  Opening Ceremony included impressive March Past by the teams, Oath Ceremony, and captivating Cultural programmes by BSF personnel, Artists of North Zone Cultural Centre and Children of BSF School.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh said the elite border guarding force has been home to legendry Hockey player Udham Singh, Arjuna Awardee, who represented India in Olympic games in the year 1956, 1960 and 1964, Ajit Pal Singh, (decorated with Padamshri and Arjuna Award)  who captained 1975 World Cup Winning Indian Hockey Team, Praveen KumarArjuna Awardee  and many other sports stalwarts. The Force has produced 17 Arjuna Awardees in various disciplines.Besides above, many sportsmen of BSF have represented India in various International Competitions.

He added as an elite Central Police Force, BSF lays extra stress on games and competitions of different disciplines as a regular part of its day-to-day functioning. Inter Frontier Competitions are organised as Force level sports tournaments where potential young talents are selected to be put through intensive coaching at respective places of concentration under seasoned Coaches. These competitions provide a healthy platform for BSF sportsmen to exhibit their rare talent and courage to be further groomed for national and international championships. 

He said outstanding performance is expected in these Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Kabaddi and Gymnastics Competitions and the players selected out of these Competitions will certainly make a mark in National and International Competitions in the coming years.

Adding, he said impressive Khel Gaons have been created within the BSF campus Jalandhar and STC BSF Kharkan Camps for participating sportsmen with excellent facilities for boarding, lodging, recreation and entertainment as well as medical support.

The ongoing competitions will conclude on February 1. BSF authorities are expecting outstanding performance from participating sportsmen.
