BUY PAU RECOMMENDED GOOD QUALITY SEED: DR T.S.DHILLON

Ludhiana, March 14, 2019: Dr T.S. Dhillon, Associate Director, Seeds, PAU today urged the farmers to go in for PAU recommended good quality seed of various Kharif crops at the two day Kisan Mela kicking off in the university from tomorrow . " Since seeds form the basis of agricultural prosperity, farmers need to pay special attention to recommended crop varieties and their seed," said Dr Dhillon. He further informed that seed of new paddy variety, PR 127 will be available which is a medium maturing variety that matures in 137 days after seeding. It is resistant to bacterial leaf blight and gives good yield with high total and head rice recovery. Similarly PR 126 matures in 123 days after seeding, is resistant to bacterial leaf blight and gives a good yield. Besides, seed of PR 124, PR 123, PR 122, PR 121, PR 114, PR 113 and new varieties of basmati, PUSA Basmati 1718, PUSA Basmati 1637, Punjab Basmati 5, Punjab Basmati 4, Punjab Basmati 3, Punjab Basmati 2 and PUSA Basmati 1121 and PUSA Basmati 1509 will also be made available to farmers. Farmers can also buy seed of Saathi moongi SML 832, Mash 114 and Mash 338, Arhar variety AL 882, and PAU 881, Sesame variety Punjab sesame No.2, fodder maize J1006, Bajra FBC 16 and PCB 164. Apart from this, vegetable kits and seed of summer vegetables, turmeric etc are also an attraction of the Kisan Mela. Dr Dhillon further informed that the seed of various crops and vegetables will be available after billing at single window for convenience of farmers. He urged the farmers to participate enthusiastically in the two day event, interact with scientists, take technical inputs and give their valuable feedback to make farming more profitable.
