CABINET MINISTER CHETAN SINGH JAURAMAJRA ASSESSES SITUATION IN VILLAGES AFFECTED BY HEAVY RAINFALL
DIRECTS DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION OFFICIALS TO REMAIN MORE VIGILANT
Chandigarh, July 10, 2023: Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister S. Chetan Singh Jauramajra, on Monday, visited over a dozen villages in Samana constituency and conducted an extensive assessment of the rapidly flowing Ghaggar river, Jhambo drain and other rivulets. While gauging the situation resulting from heavy rainfall, he urged the public not to give ear to any rumours, and advised them to contact the flood control room of the district administration in any untoward flood-like situation.
During his visit, S. Chetan Singh Jauramajra held discussions with the locals, stating that due to the heavy inflow of water in catchment areas of Patiala, Ghaggar and other drains, Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann led government has issued directives to district administrations to ensure continuous monitoring and heightened vigilance in the districts to safeguard the lives of the people and their properties.
On receiving the feedback from the people, S. Jauramajra instructed the officials of the department of Drainage, Public Works, Mandi Board, Rural Development and Panchayats etc to ensure continuous monitoring in the areas under their jurisdiction in view of the heavy rainfall warnings issued by the Meteorological Department and increase vigilance and exercise constant monitoring of rivers, drains and their channels including the Ghaggar river in order to provide immediate relief to the people in case of potential flood like situations.
He assured that the government machinery is actively engaged in mitigating the effect of the current natural calamity, while the Chief Minister has also issued instructions to carry out special girdawari so that the loss caused to the farmers can be compensated at the earliest.
S. Chetan Singh Jauramajra also visited several villages including Dharameri, Gheura, Sular, J.P. Colony, Dhanouri, Sassa, Sassi, Sassa Theh, Nawan Gaon, Main, Kamalpur, Haripur, and held discussions with local residents to gather feedback.
The Information and Public Relations Minister assured the people that Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann led government stands with its people in this difficult time. The Minister was accompanied by Gurdev Singh Tiwana, Balkar Singh Gajjumajra, Surjit Singh Fauji, Amardeep Singh Sonu Thind, Maninder Singh, Kamalpreet Singh Sarpanch Sular.
