Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian inaugurated various infrastructure development projects in five government schools falling under Sahnewal constituency.

Sahnewal (Ludhiana) April 19, 2025: Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian inaugurated various infrastructure development projects in five government schools falling under Sahnewal constituency.
These include Government High School, Jamalpur Awana, Government Primary Smart School, Jamalpur Awana, Government Primary School, Bhamian Khurd, Government High School, Bhamian Kalan and Government Primary School, Tajpur Bet.
Addressing the inauguration of these projects, Cabinet Minister Mundian highlighted that under the Punjab Sikhya Kranti initiative, significant improvements are being made to school infrastructure. These include new school buildings, furniture, laboratories, boundary walls, toilets, clean drinking water facilities, and libraries. He emphasized that during the 2022 Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) promised to revamp the education and health sectors with state of art infrastructure, recruitment, best trainings, new recruitments, free coaching and etc. He stated that approximately 12,700 temporary teachers have been regularized with a good salary increase, and over 20,000 new teachers have been recruited. Additionally, 56,700 individuals have been provided government jobs transparently without favouritism.
Mundian also noted that Punjab has 20,000 government schools serving around 28 lakh students. Previously, students studied in poor conditions with inadequate infrastructure. Over the past three years, the Punjab government has made remarkable improvements in health and education. Now, 17,000 schools have Wi-Fi facilities, and new teacher recruitments have ensured quality education. Nearly 9,000 security guards and sanitation workers have been deployed, and bus services have been introduced in over 150 schools, particularly benefiting girls who previously dropped out due to long distances.
Mundian added that, witnessing the transformation of government schools, 8,905 students from private schools enrolled in government schools this year. Punjab’s government school students also visited ISRO to witness the Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya L-1 launches. He informed that over the past three years, teachers have received world-class training, with 234 principals trained in Singapore, 144 primary school teachers and headmasters trained in Finland, and 72 more sent for further training. Additionally, 150 principals and headmasters have been trained at IIM Ahmedabad. He also stated that AAP fulfilled its 2022 election promise of free electricity, with 90% of households now receiving zero electricity bills. The government has closed 17 toll plazas, established the Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) for road safety, and plans to set up four new medical colleges in Punjab to ensure medical students can pursue MBBS locally.
