Cadets pay tribute at War Memorial on the Silver Jubilee of Kargil Day

Jalandhar, July 26, 2024: Under the aegis of 2 Punjab NCC Battalion, NCC cadets and army instructors paid a glowing tribute by laying wreaths at the War Memorial on the Silver Jubilee of Kargil Day. Colonel Vinod Joshi said that the Kargil war broke out on 6 May 1999.  It took 82 days to flush out the terrorists and Pakistani intruders in the Daras sector at heights of 16000 to 18000 feet and minimum temperature of 30 degrees. In this war, many soldiers showed initiative, bravery, indomitable courage and made the supreme sacrifice for the country without caring for their lives. 527 soldiers of various battalions of India have sacrificed their lives which can never be forgotten. The strategy and devious ploy of the neighbouring country to cut off the National Highway 1A connecting Srinagar and Ladakh was completely foiled. Subedar Rajendra Singh, 8 Sikh, who was posted with his battalion in the Drass battlefield in 1999, shared the heroic stories he had seen with his eyes from the battlefield with the cadets. Colonel Vinod Joshi organized a five-kilometer race for the soldiers in Doaba College, in which cadets, students and eminent citizens also participated. Briefing about other programmes, Colonel Joshi said that a wreath laying ceremony was organized and tributes were paid at the martyr's memorial of the Dogra Regiment. All the programs were conducted by Subedar Labh Singh and Havildar Pradeep Kumar. Colonel Joshi said that drawing and painting competitions were organized in 38 colleges and schools on Kargil Day. In many colleges, the heroic stories of the warriors of the Kargil war were narrated to the students through lectures. Many Associate NCC Officers and Indian Army trainers have made special contribution in making the program successful.
