Campaign on 22 Actions for Biodiversity launched by Pushpa Gujral Science City

Kapurthala, May 1, 2022: A 22 day campaign was launched by Pushpa Gujral Science City to celebrate International Biodiversity Day to motivate the public to conserve Biodiversity and celebrate International Biodiversity Day.  While launching the campaign Dr. Neelima Jerath, Director General, Science City informed that Pushpa Gujral Science City will undertake the campaign from May 1- 22 with 22 actions as specified by Convention for Biological Diversity. These actions will culminate to celebration of International Biodiversity Day on May 22. 21 of the actions are aligned with the new Global Biodiversity Framework to be adopted at the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP15). She further said that through these actions, every individual can contribute towards achieving the targets set in the framework. Science City is organizing the 22 day long campaign involving participation of approx. 30 Schools & Higher Education Institutions across the state. Various activities, like, expert talks, Nature Walk, Bird Watching, competitions, poster making, film shows, discussion forum, etc will be organized in hybrid mode (online/offline). Each day institutions will click their pictures and their pictures will be uploaded on social media handles linked to UN Biodiversity & National Biodiversity Authority, GoI.

Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City said, “This event will ignite the passion in the society about conservation and management of biodiversity resources and also enhance their knowledge about the values of biodiversity resources in their lives”.

The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. With the aim of highlighting the importance of biodiversity for many sustainable development issues, this year’s slogan for the International Day for Biological Diversity, celebrated each
year on 22 May, is “Building a Shared Future for all Life.”

At launch programme, Ms. UVL Ananda, Head of Public Affairs, East-West Seed India Pvt. Ltd spoke on commitment of her company towards Biodiversity conservation. Mrs Paramjit Kaur, Principal, Kamla Nehru Public School, Phagwara said that such programmes greatly motivate the students.
