Can Cancer be prevented?
Former Director Grade Scientist, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, India Dr. P. D. Gupta today delivered a lecture on the topic entitled “Can Cancer be Prevented?” at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, December 23, 2024: Former Director Grade Scientist, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, India Dr. P. D. Gupta today delivered a lecture on the topic entitled “Can Cancer be Prevented?” at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The lecture was organised by Zoology Department Alumni Association (ZDAA) of the Department of Zoology, at the department.
Distinguished alumni, Dr. P. D. Gupta did his Ph. D. from the Department of Zoology, Panjab University in 1968 under the supervision of Prof. Vishwanath.He is a recipient of multiple honors including Max Planck Fellowship and his work is recognized in “Marquis Who’s Who” in the World.
In his lecture, Dr. Gupta highlighted the risks of white light exposure to the onset of cancer in adulthood and even during gestational period leading to childhood cancer. He elaborated on the association of white light exposure with disruption of circadian rhythm and the role of melatonin in preventing the occurrence of this disease. He also suggested the audience to adopt a healthy lifestyle and minimising the use of mobile phones during night-time.
Earlier, the lecture was started with the welcome address by Chairperson of the Department of Zoology, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, who also introduced the speaker to the audience.
The lecture was attended by faculty members, research scholars and post-graduate students of the department. His talk was highly intriguing and concluded with an interactive session.
