CANDIDATES CAN’T SPEND MORE THAN RS 70 LAKH FIXED AS EXPENDITURE LIMIT: EXPENDITURE OBSERVER
Ferozepur, April 22, 2019: Ferozepur Lok Sabha Expenditure Observer Mr Abhay Uday Anand, IRS on Monday held a meeting with the various monitoring teams and directed them to keep a close vigil on the expenditures of the candidates. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner cum district election officer Mr. Chander Gaind in the district administrative complex. He said that if any candidate spends more than Rs 70 lakh, will be declared ineligible for the election, adding he said that the candidate can spend Rs 10,000 in cash and for over Rs 10,000, he will have to use RTGS, CHEQUE, NEFT and Demand Draft. He said that to stop misuse of the money in the elections, the election commission of India has set up accounting experts teams. Mr Anand asked the health and police department to keep a check on the sale of medicines by chemists and checking must be carried on a routine basis to match the sale and purchase records of the medicines. District Election Officer Mr. Chander Gaind said that chemists should not sell any medicine without prescription of the doctor and if any found violating this will face action. Expenditure Observer said that owners of the printing press must publish their firms’ name on the electioneering material including poster, pamphlet, hoardings etc. He asked the supervising teams to keep the check on the political functions, rallies or meetings so that the expenditure of such functions can be added to the candidate’s account. Mr Anand asked the deputy commissioners of three districts which fall in Ferozepur Lok Sabha Constituency including Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner Mr Chander Gaind, Muktsar Deputy Commissioner Mr Aravind Kumar, and Deputy Commissioner Fazilka Mr Manpreet Singh Chhatwal to maintain coordination among various monitoting teams belonging to their respective areas for more transparency. Expenditure Observer Mr Abhay Uday Anand will be available from 9 am to 10 am in Circuit House for the public till April 24. Later, he will be there from May 2 to May 19.
