Candidates can withdraw nominations by 12 pm on May 17
District Election Officer (DEO) Sakshi Sawhney on Thursday said that any candidate could withdraw his/her candidature by giving a notice to Returning Officer (DEO) in Form 5 (Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961) and delivering the same before 12 pm (noon) on the last date of withdrawing nominations, which is May 17 (Friday).
Ludhiana, May 16, 2024: District Election Officer (DEO) Sakshi Sawhney on Thursday said that any candidate could withdraw his/her candidature by giving a notice to Returning Officer (DEO) in Form 5 (Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961) and delivering the same before 12 pm (noon) on the last date of withdrawing nominations, which is May 17 (Friday).
DEO Sawhney said that any withdrawal after that hour would be invalid and had no legal effect.
After rejection of the nomination papers of 22 candidates during scrutiny exercise held on Wednesday, now 44 candidates are left in the fray.
