Ludhiana, August 29, 2013: Nishi Singh, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT) while addressing the meeting of Commissioners (Income Tax), other high ups of the Department and office-bearers and executive members of Punjab Tax Bar Association (PTBA) said that Income Tax Department will positively collect the tax due towards the assesses.  The number of assesses will be increased and all those assesses who are liable to file income tax returns will be asked to file the same to avoid any kind of penalty, interest or face prosecution at later stage. 

She further said that on the basis of annual information report submitted by banks and other financial institutions Central Board of Direct Taxes is likely to ask by issuing notices to explain the source of income or of their deposits.  Apart from others those who deposit more than Rs. 10 lakh cash in their saving bank accounts in a year are also covered in the said AIR and at the same time she assured that all the problems, grievances and difficulties of the Tax Bars of its range and tax payers will be fully redressed for smooth working of Income Tax Department.

Ashok Juneja, President and B.R.Kaushal, Secretary General and other office bearers and executive members (PTBA) submitted a memorandum of suggestions so that computerised network, central processing system may work effectively. CCIT assured that she will recommend the same to CBDT for doing the needful.

CCIT assured that the CPC Commissioner and the Director General of Income Tax (Systems) will be called at Ludhiana for removing all kinds of technical problems being faced here.  CCIT and Commissioner of Income Tax Vinod Kumar and Raman Goel as well as Additional/ Joint Commissioner of Income Tax also assured PTBA that fixation of scrutiny cases, issuing of refunds, amendments and processing of returns will be made strictly as per CBDT’s instructions which were fully discussed in the said meeting. 

Balbir Khanna, President, Taxation Bar Association and Tarlok Bhalla, Joint Secretary (PTBA) highlighted that tax deductions at source laws are not properly complied by certain bankers.  CCIT said that penal action against bankers may be taken for such type of contraventions. 

Raj Paul Gupta, Senior Vice President and Rupinder Kansal, Secretary PTBA said that video conferencing at CIT level with PTBA should held monthly to enlighten public regarding their tax liabilities and rights of tax payers. 

In the meeting, Jatinder Khurana, General Secretary (TBA), H.S. Ghai Joint Secretary, Arun Kanwal Secretary (TBA), BB Lohia, Rajan, SP Rana, Sandeep, Uma Shankar and others were also present.
