CDOE organised lecture to mark International Day of Education

Chandigarh, January 25, 2025:  The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) organised a lecture to mark the International Day of Education. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Choudhury, Assistant Professor  at JNU, delivered the keynote, focusing on inequities in higher education globally and within India, with particular attention to disparities in development and enrolment across States and UTs.

Drawing on NSSO 2017–18 data, he analyzed trends in household expenditure and enrolment, highlighting the decline in private professional institution enrolments and the role of public higher education institutions (HEIs) and government initiatives in raising the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER), especially among marginalized groups.

The session saw participation from 100 attendees, including faculty and students from Panjab University, its constituent colleges, colleges across Punjab, and JNU. Dr. Ravinder Kaur convened the session, Prof. Harsh Gandhar welcomed the speaker, and Prof. Madhurima Verma proposed the vote of thanks. A Q&A session followed the lecture.
