Celebs attend 33rd Guwahati Book Fair
Urmila Mahanta presents her father Giridhar Mahanta’s children’s play Tridhara
Actress Urmila Mahanta, who is a popular Assamese celebrity and seen in films like Padman presented her father Giridhar Mahanta’s children’s play Tridhara at the prestigious 33rd Guwahati Book Fair. It is a collection of 3 children mythological play held at Prakashan Parishad’s auditorium.
The presentees were popular Assamese actor Kopil Bora, Sahitya Academy Award winner Bipul Deuri, Utpal Dutta, Prafulla Barman, National award winning film critic Monoj Borpujari, Pramod Kalita, Secretary, Assam Publication Board amongst many others.
Elated Pramod Kalita says, “As of now, we have two hot selling books among which Hiren Bhattacharjee’s Rachanabali by Bipuljyoti Sakia is from our publication. On the second day, we sold books worth Rs.62,000. We are thankful to all the participants for making the 33rd Guwahati Book Fair a grand success. We had witnessed highest gathering on 1st evening.”
“This is my father’s first attempt hence our entire family is coming forward to encourage him. I am so grateful to all distinguished invitees to attend the event. I would like to thank Mr. Pramod Kalita and Assam Publication Board for giving us such wonderful platform like Guwahati Book fair and wish it a grand success,” shares Urmila Mahanta.
The fair saw a huge gathering including publisher Jutika Mahanta and entire family and well wishers. While youth looked for books penned by authors Chetan Bhagat, Amish Tripathi, Ravinder Singh etc, the older generation preferred books of Homen Borgohain, Rita Chowdhury, Anuradha Sharma Pujari and several others at the book fair.
Assam Publication Board claims that sales have been higher compared to the previous years. They also believe that in today’s day and age of smart devices, people are still interested in buying and reading books.
