Chandigarh, February 8, 2024: Member of Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib MP and former Union Minister Manish Tewari, while raising his voice in favor of farmers in Lok Sabha, has asked the Central Government to bring a law on MSP, for which it had promised during the farmers' protest in Delhi.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, MP Tewari said that in April 2020, when Covid-19 had wreaked havoc across the world, humanity was completely scared. The central government brought four laws related to farming. Against these laws, without caring for their lives, lakhs of farmers of the country under the leadership of the farmers of Punjab came and sat on the borders of Delhi. This struggle continued for about one and a half years and about 700 farmers were martyred. After this the government apologized and withdrew those laws.
The MP stressed that while withdrawing those laws, the government had promised the farmers that a law would be brought on Minimum Support Price (MSP). But from the year 2021, now 2024 has come and the tenure of the government is also about to end, but till now neither the law on MSP has been made nor the report of Swaminathan Committee has been implemented. By doing this, the government has committed a huge betrayal towards the martyred farmers. He said that there is still some time left for the current session of Parliament and the government should bring a law on MSP in the Lok Sabha.
