Central University of Punjab celebrated Teachers Day 2022

Other events held in this programme include a panel discussion on NEP-2020 and a special lecture on Pedagogy.
Bathinda September 5, 2022: To recognize the contributions of teachers in building the future of the nation and in taking NEP-2020 forward, the Central University of Punjab is celebrating Shikshak Parv from September 5 to 9.

On Teacher’s Day, a special programme was organized at the University Campus. During this programme, the Voce-Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, felicitated all faculty members of the university. The special attraction of the felicitation ceremony was that the students also got the opportunity to felicitate their teachers. The programme also featured a special lecture and a panel discussion on NEP-2020.

In his presidential address, Prof. Tiwari delivered a special lecture on the topic of “Reimagining Higher Education”. He emphasized the need for imparting outcome and skill-based education through the adoption of experiential learning pedagogies, including the ICT-based Flipped Classes Model, to make learning active and enjoyable. 

He asserted that the rankings of India’s HEIs could only be improved when we align our education system with the objectives of Education 4.0 to meet the requirements of Industrial Revolution 4.0 and SDG-4. He motivated teachers to mentor students the process of learning and train them to become life-long learners. He underlined that in the present scenario, teachers need to re-imagine their roles, re-invent themselves and draw strength from the ancient Bharatiya tradition of Gurus. He deliberated on the three models of HEIs, viz., Research-focused Institutes, Career-focused Institutes and Foundation Institutes, and exhorted teachers to think which model would be the best to CUP in the emerging scenario.

After this, Dr. Sesadeba Pany delivered a lecture on Innovative Pedagogies in Higher Education. He stated that a teacher needs to use innovative teaching pedagogies such as collaborative and cooperative learning strategies, teach-back sessions, place-based learning with the innovative use of technology, learning through argumentation, adaptive learning and other pedagogies to facilitate learning to their students and to develop necessary skills among them.

In the second half of the programme, a panel discussion was organized on the topic "NEP-2020 in transforming the Indian Education System". During this event, Prof. Anjana Munshi, Prof. Felix Bast; Dr. Shahila Zafar, Dr. Jeyavel S.; Dr. S. Pany and Dr. Shashank Kumar shared their views as panelists. Dr. Juvblee Padnabhan moderated the event.

The programme commenced with the welcome address by Prof. R.K. Wusirka, Dean Incharge Academics and concluded with the formal vote of thanks by Prof. Sanjeev Kumar. On this occasion, Prof. B.P. Garg, CoE and Registrar (O); Prof. Vinod K. Garg, Dean Student Welfare and Deans of Schools were also present. Faculty members from different departments of the university attended this programme.

The Shikshak Parv Celebrations, which will continue till September 9th, will include lectures on various themes related to the role of teachers as envisaged in NEP 2020; webinars; book reading; screening of educational films; and an exhibition and quiz on the contribution of teachers in the Indian Knowledge System.
