Central University of Punjab fraternity plants tree saplings to establish Guru Nanak Vatika on World Environment Day

The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CU Punjab), celebrated World Environment Day under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari with a tree plantation drive to establish Guru Nanak Vatika on the university campus. The event, held in collaboration with the Forest Department, Govt. of Punjab, aimed to create Guru Nanak Vatika near Main Gate No. 2 of the campus.

Bathinda, June 5, 2024: The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CU Punjab), celebrated World Environment Day under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari with a tree plantation drive to establish Guru Nanak Vatika on the university campus. The event, held in collaboration with the Forest Department, Govt. of Punjab, aimed to create Guru Nanak Vatika near Main Gate No. 2 of the campus.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari conceptualized the idea of establishing Guru Nanak Vatika at University Campus to inspire everyone to adopt sustainable lifestyle practices in our daily life for which the university has approached Forest Department, Govt. of Punjab. He underlined the message of environmental protection given by Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji by quoting his bani "Pavan guru paani pita mata dharat mahat”. Prof. Tiwari urged youngsters take inspiration from the life and philosophy of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and resolve to contribute towards environmental conservation.

The programme was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari and Registrar Dr. Vijay Sharma, who planted a Triveni at Sri Guru Nanak Vatika. Following this, faculty members, university officials, staff, research scholars and students planted tree saplings, affirming their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.

Bipinesh Kumar Tripathi, Horticulture Consultant, informed that a total of 500 plant and tree saplings of 31 different varieties, including Neem, Jamun, Amaltas, Gulab, Kikar, Gulmohar, Amla, Guava etc., were planted during the drive to establish Guru Nanak Vatika.

Upon the successful completion of this plantation drive, the university officials expressed gratitude towards Shri Amrinder Singh, Range Forest Officer, Department of Forests and Wildlife Preservation, Punjab, for providing saplings and essential support. On this occasion, Prof. Shankar Lal Bika, Prof. Kanhaiya Tripathi (Chair Professor, Ambedkar Chair), Dr. Sunil Mittal, Executive Engineer Saurabh Gupta, Robin Jindal, Public Relations Officer, Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Registrar, and other university employees were present.

The establishment of the Guru Nanak Vatika serves as a significant milestone in CU Punjab’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness and action within the community. By participating in the tree plantation drive, university fraternity not only contributed to the campus's beautification but also played a crucial role in promoting environmental sustainability.
