Central University of Punjab Organizes Two-Day Introduction/Orientation Programme as Part of Anti-Ragging Awareness Week Celebrations
The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, under the patronage of the Honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Tiwari, organized Anti-Ragging Awareness Program on 12- 13 August, 2024. This initiative aimed to foster a culture of respect and safety on campus by educating seniors and freshers about the detrimental effects of ragging and the university’s stringent policies against it.
Bathinda, August 14, 2024: The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, under the patronage of the Honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Tiwari, organized Anti-Ragging Awareness Program on 12- 13 August, 2024. This initiative aimed to foster a culture of respect and safety on campus by educating seniors and freshers about the detrimental effects of ragging and the university’s stringent policies against it.
The event began with an introductory orientation session for the Senior batch on August 12. Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean Students’ Welfare, extended a warm welcome to the participants. He underscored the significance of the anti-ragging initiative and outlined the University’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. Awareness Program comprised comprehensive sessions focusing on the scope of ragging, legal provisions and preventative measures related to ragging. Prof. V.K. Pathania in his awareness session provided a thorough briefing on the various forms of ragging, its psychological and legal repercussions, and the mechanisms for reporting incidents.
On August 13, the orientation continued for the fresher students of Sciences and Humanities & Social Sciences. Prof. Anand Thakur, Associate Dean Students’ Welfare, in his awareness session for Social Sciences Students, emphasized the importance of responsible behavior both on campus and online. He cautioned against engaging in or supporting any form of ragging and stressed the importance of maintaining a positive and inclusive campus atmosphere. A highlight of the day was the introduction of the #YaARIYouthAgainstRagging campaign by DSW, aimed at encouraging students to take a stand against ragging. The session also featured a powerful short documentary on anti-ragging. The session witnessed a call for students to submit their online anti-ragging undertakings via the designated website.
The anti-ragging cell encouraged the students to participate in various poster-making, slogan-writing, and logo competitions fostering creativity and awareness about anti-ragging. A selfie stand was set up to encourage participants to share their commitment to a ragging-free campus on social media, further amplifying the event’s reach and impact.
